SYMPHONIES D'AUTOMNES

Young singing and opera professionals from France or abroad, this 16th international Opera Aria and French Melody Competition is for you.
The event has built a Europe-wide reputation and offers substantial prizes. The Competition could be your opportunity to win a renowned award and follow in the footsteps of leading young talents such as:
Alexia Cousin, Sébastien Droy, Alketa Cela, François Lis, Nathalie Gaudefroy, Isabelle Ducret, Bruno Ranc, Anna kasian, Elisabeth Bailey, Simone Riksman, Gaëlle Arquez…


1st Prize : €5,000

1st Prize - French Melody : €3,000
Other prizes will be awarded by decision of the Jury.
 
Competition Organisation :
. Piano accompanists will be available for participants throughout the duration of the Competition.
. The finalists will work with the orchestra from 13th November and will also receive a fixed amount to cover their accommodation expenses from "Mâcon Symphonies"
. The compulsory melodies will be composed by an internationally renowned master singer.

Jury :
. The jury will be chaired by the main composer.
.The jury will include representatives of the Music Academies of Paris, Amsterdam and London

• The compulsory melody (consisted specially for the competition(help)) and a French melody (in the choice)

Finale with the symphony orchestra of Mâcon
Programs:

• Two airs (choice on a preestablished list) and the compulsory melody.
Prize list - Recital of the prize-winners and the concert of fence presented by Frédéric Lodéon
For any categories of voices, the age limit is fixed to 35 years.
Enrolment fee in the competition : 50€

European Opera Aria and French Melody Competition 2008
Applications
The SixteenthOpera Aria and French Melody Competition is reserved for young singers from the French Conservatoires Nationaux and the Music Academies and Musik-Hochshulen of the countries of the European Union and And from the whole world. Other applications may also be accepted by decision of the technical committee of "Mâcon Symphonies" after examination of the application file providing evidence of an equivalent level.

Second Round
Enrolment fee (not refunded): €50
Deposit: €50, refunded to enrolled applicants who take part in the Competition.
Date limit for enrolments: 5 octobre 2009
Maximum number: 45 contestants
Enrolments will only be taken into consideration on receipt of all the following items:
Curriculum vitae accompanied with possible letters of recommendation

• Enrolment form duly completed
• Two separate payments (enrolment and deposit)
• Choice of opera arias and French melodies (quarter final, semi final and final)
• Scores of the selected works for the quarter and semi finals (for the piano accompanists)
• The enrolment form, list of selected works and scores must be returned to us by 30 September. No changes to the choice of works will be possible after this date.

Selection by written application
A committee(commission) will meet on October 6th, 2009 for the selection of 45 successful applicants for the competition

QUARTER FINAL with piano
The quarter finals with piano are open to the public and will be held:
• Tuesday 10 November from 10am in the Auditorium of the Conservatoire.
• Each contestant must perform an aria and a French melody of their choice.

SEMI-FINAL with piano
The semi-finals with piano are open to the public and will be held:
Wednesday 11 November at 4pm in the Auditorium
Each contestant must perform:
• An aria chosen for their voice category from a list drawn up in advance by the Artistic Committee
• The compulsory melody for their voice category: works which must be sung in the original language.
• A French melody of their choice.
Rehearsals
A rehearsal is planned before the Competition with the piano accompanists:
• For the Quarter Finals: Monday 09 November (lots will be drawn to allocate rehearsal times).
• For the Semi Final: Wednesday 11 November (lots will be drawn to allocate rehearsal times).
The contestants selected by the Jury will take part in the Final.
• Before each round, lots are drawn to allocate performance times.
FINAL with Symphony Orchestra
The Finals are open to the public and will be held:
• Sunday 15 November at the Theatre, at 5pm
The Contestants must perform:
• 2 excerpts from operas chosen from the list drawn up in advance and the compulsory French melody.
The Contestants selected for the final will have the possibility to work on their programme with the orchestra of the City of MACON on Friday 13 November and there will be a final dress reheasal on Saturday 14 November.
Decisions of the Jury
In case of disputes, the decision of the President will be decisive.
The decisions of the Jury will not be subject to appeal and may not give rise to any administrative or legal proceedings.
Accommodation for Quarter and Semi Finalists
All useful information will be supplied at the request of the contestants (hotels, restaurants…).
Accommodation of finalists
The contestants selected for the Final will receive a fixed-amount of €230 for eating and accommodation expenses (Contestants must make their own bookings).

The Jury reserves the right not to award the 1st Prize.

Other prizes will be awarded by decision of the Jury.
Palmares

To receive their prizes, winners must:
• be present at the Award Ceremony
• take part in the Prize-Winners' Concert after the Award Ceremony.
